Privacy Policy
How Oil Genie handles trader data. Plain language, no dark patterns.
What we collect
Account data: your email address and authentication identifiers.
Profile data: your chosen screen name, public/private visibility setting, preferred brokerage, membership tier and alert preferences.
Activity data: the forecasts you submit, their settlement outcomes, accuracy scores, points, ranks and badges.
How we use it
To operate your account, settle your forecasts against published market data, calculate rankings and badges, enforce membership limits and send the alerts you have opted into.
To keep the platform secure and to investigate abuse of the competition mechanics.
We do not sell your personal data and we do not run advertising profiling on it.
What is public
Only your screen name and competition statistics appear on public surfaces, and only while your profile is set to public. Your email address and real identity are never shown on the leaderboard.
You can switch your profile to private at any time in settings; private profiles are excluded from public rankings.
Processors and third parties
Authentication, database and hosting are provided by our cloud backend provider. Transactional and authentication emails are delivered through our email provider. Market data is sourced from public market data feeds.
These providers process data on our instructions to run the service; they are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Cookies and local storage
We use strictly necessary storage only: a session token so you stay signed in, and small local flags for interface state such as your last-read alerts and a pending post-sign-in destination. No third-party advertising cookies are set.
Retention
Account and forecast data is retained while your account is open, because historical accuracy is the core of the product. If you delete your account, your profile, forecasts, badges and preferences are removed; anonymised aggregate statistics may remain.
Your rights
You can export a full JSON copy of your data and permanently delete your account from the settings page at any time.
You may also request access, correction or deletion by email. Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR or similar laws, including the right to complain to your local supervisory authority.
